Joker is a film that not only amazes you by also makes you think about society and how it treats its people, Joaquin Phoenix aged Arthur Fleck and his transformation into joker was nothing short of brilliant acting on his part and Todd Philips direction of the film is very well.

It is brutally violent no doubt about that and I understand the concerns critics have about it. But this movie is fundamentally about the cost of leaving people behind socially, economically, education, healthcare, etc. The gut-wrenching heartbreak broken humans live with on a daily basis. The terrifying consequences of trimmed down social safety nets. It’s not a tale for the faint of heart but an important one to tell in our day in age.

Go see this film haven’t watched it yet? What on earth are you waiting for?

Joker 2019 Movie Review:

Joker is a depiction of the darkest side of human essence. It teaches us an important lesson that any manifestation of good or evil is directly a by-product of the society as a whole and we as a human race are responsible for it. Joker, as everyone knows, is a complicated character to play on screen. Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger both perfected the role but Joaquin Phoenix’s performance takes it to another level we didn’t know existed, his portrayal of Joker is bigger than himself and will definitely go down in the cinematic history. Kudos to Lawrence Sher, what an amazing piece of cinematography, every frame is like a painting edged on celluloid.

Finally, Thanks to Todd Philips for bringing this masterpiece for us fans.

PS: It will be disappointing if Joaquin Phoenix doesn’t get an Oscar for this.

Rating: 10/10

Haunting, unsettling and disturbing; exactly how Joker’s origin story needs to be told. Joker is the agent of chaos as the character finds self-value in anarchy. Todd Phillips has created a masterpiece which doesn’t leave you at the exit of the cinemas but stays with you, making you ponder on many issues including mental illness, child abuse, financial inequality and the chaos that ensues all of this. Joaquin Phoenix delivers a performance that is in sync with the character to an extent that it feels like you are watching a biopic. At the same level, something that has a tight grip on you throughout is Hildur Gudnadottir’s musical score. It elevates each scene into a class of its own. All this said, Joker never lets you feel like what all Arthur does is justifiable nor vindicates him of his crimes. He is the lord of crime with the darkest sense of humour, and the movie tells it out loud. To sum up, Joker takes you on a deep dive into not only the psyche of the central character but also that of a society where the 99% are frustrated to a point of no return.

Long review: Joaquin Phoenix just gave us his career best performance as JOKER. And even director created masterpiece. Unlike Ledger, Phoenix had to portray the character in much depth, depicting the journey of a mentally troubled man who transformers into a criminal mastermind.

Movie captures epic combination of pure emotion and how society impacts on creating Joker in 1st and 2nd act of movie. Gotham is under chaos and the omnipresent divide between the rich and the poor couldn’t be more prominent. It’s a valid set-up for the settling down of a violent social norm. Joker’s gradual leaning towards violence seems like natural progression.

Director left lots of easter eggs about many characters in Gotham city and even referencing Batman. We can see high influence of martin scorsese movies especially King of Comedy and Taxi Driver. Slight philosophy of fight club movie can also be seen adapted here.

The cinematography and the production design take you flawlessly into the city of Gotham itself. ‘JOKER’ is surely going to make a bang in Oscars 2020. There is no doubt that Phoenix is getting a nomination again in the best leading actor category.

“Joker” (2019) starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks – the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Impressively and consistently dark, but fails as a back story. Acting was fantastic Joaquin Phoenix May have hardware in his future. He plays the role perfectly. I had high hopes when I learned he was casted and he did not disappoint. Phoenix does a great job showing the transformation throughout the film. Cinematography was good, but nothing we haven’t seen from this universe before. It’s exactly what we’ve come to expect. Tone was fantastic in this film. Every scene seemed to help you feel the wait of the character. Overall, this film was everything I wanted it to be. Great acting and fantastic dark tone that was consistent throughout the film make it a must see. Check it out and let me know what you think.
